Price of electricity generated from nuclear power plants only Rp200 per kilowatt-hour, far when compared with the price of electricity comes from coal plants that reached Rp670 per Kwh. He pointed out how China support the industry by building about 140 reactors, so the electricity in China can be cheap.
For the ideal location of nuclear plant construction, continued Zaki, there are some places that are relatively stable are not shaken by an earthquake. Some areas include Bangka Belitung, Kalimantan, Jepara, and an island in northern Banten.
"It seems most ready to Bangka Belitung, if rejection occurs by the citizens of Jepara. Banten North of the island there are also quite far from the epicenter," he said.
If Indonesia wants to build nuclear power plants, he recommends using the highest security standards. Average potential earthquakes that occurred in Indonesia about 7.0 Rickher Scale, therefore the construction of nuclear plants able to withstand earthquakes up to magnitude 8.5.
There is a fee to be paid more, but not particularly when compared with the security and human safety.
"Indonesia should learn from the case of Chernobyl and Three Mile Island in which ever case of radioactive leaks. Design a powerful nuclear power plant must be engineered to anticipate the worst," he explained.
Meanwhile, experts Geodesy Institute of Technology Bandung, Dr. Irwan Mailano explain the whole territory of Japan is in an earthquake zone, but 40 percent of electricity supplied from nuclear power plants in Japan.
"The principle of building a nuclear power plant have to engineer the design to suit the conditions of the earthquake," he said.
